Nearly 40 Acts to Perform at Boleros de Oro Festival 2003

Events[image1_left](Prensa Latina - Cumbancha) Havana, Cuba - Nearly 40 acts from Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico and Venezuela will participate in the 17th Boleros de Oro Festival, to take place June 22-29 in Havana, Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba, reported Radio Rebelde. Organizing Committee President José Loyola announced that the romantic music Festival will be dedicated to the late singer Elena Burke, known as "Señora Sentimiento" in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The also Vice-President of the Cuban Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) mentioned that Puerto Rican Danny Rivera will perform in a recital Saturday June 28, at the Karl Marx Theater, the largest in Cuba with 5.000 seats. Composers Harold Gramatges and Rosendo Ruiz, on the occasion of his 85th birthday, and singers Esther Borja and Adriano Rodríguez, for their 90th and 80th anniversaries, respectively, will also be paid homage during the Festival. The 17th edition of Boleros de Oro will welcome lectures by Cuban composers Cesar Portillo de la Luz and Marta Valdes, while topics such as "Music and Poetry in Bolero" and "Bolero and Rumba" will be analyzed in colloquiums.

Documentaries dedicated to recently deceased singer and composer Polo Montañez and to Elena Burke will also be screened.
