Granada, Spain - Spanish flamenco ensemble Taller de Compás will be touring North America for the first time in September of 2003.  The band will be performing and holding workshops in Detroit (Michigan, USA), Chicago (Illinois, USA), Madison (Wisconsin, USA), Toronto (Ontario, Canada) and Bloomington (Indiana, USA).

Taller de Compás de Almanjáyar is more than just a percussion workshop. It arose out of a social cultural educational program, born as a direct result of a housing project on the street Molino Nuevo in Almanjáyar, Granada, to promote peaceful cultural co existence through music (the rhythms of flamenco alongside those of Cuba, Brazil and Africa).

The team of professionals who started the social project of intervention and renovation( Miguel, Reme, Puche and others) also began the music workshop, which over a period of four years has had wonderful results and achieved the aims of the cultural association not only musically but socially and culturally encouraging local participation of the community.

The group's CD is a reflection of all that work and charts the progress through the music, song after song, from the year 2000 when the children (at that time 11 and 12 years of age), recorded their first song until March 2002 when they finished the last track.
