EventsSilver Spring, Maryland, USA - The 16th Annual International Folk Alliance Conference will take place in San Diego February 2003. The organization's executive director, Phyllis Barney, said recently about the event: "The Folk Alliance Conference brings together some of the many voices that combine to form our One Strong Voice for folk music and dance. Join us in February to explore the many cultures that thrive in the Southern California area, including Cambodian dance, Native American music, Polynesian music and dance, Iranian santur (Persian hammered dulcimer), and Mexican corridos. Our voice thrives as folk organizations continue to grow, and folk artists continue to perform, so join us to learn how to run a non-profit, start an agency, or market your music."

Early Bird Registration Ends October 1

Folk Alliance members have the benefit of low Early-Bird rates for the conference. You can register now via the secure site online at Conference, or use the form found in the conference brochure to fax (301-588-8186) or mail your registration fee to the Folk Alliance office. Registrations must reach the office by October 1st for you to qualify for the early bird rates. Exhibitors can plan to bring up to 2 (table-top) or 3 (booth) people to staff their exhibit space, and save even more.

Room lottery will be held November 3rd There are limited number of conference meeting room spaces to give away via lottery for late-night private showcase events. You must call the office (301-588-8185) to have your name put into the drawing, and you have until 5 pm on November 3rd to get your name in. Details on lottery rooms and private showcasing can be found at http://www.folk.org/AnnualCon/annualCon.htm .

Official showcase artists to be announced September 24th

The showcase committees have been hard at work, and some notifications have already gone out for the official Folk Alliance showcases in San Diego. The last selections are coming in, and the full roster of artists will be announced on September 24th.

If you have any questions about the conference, call at 301-588-8185 or an email to fa@folk.org
