Carlos Núñez's latest CD released by R2 in Canada
10/01/2003 09:42AM
Contributed by: Patrick Smyth

General NewsToronto, Canada - R2 Records of Toronto, Ontario, Canada has announced an agreement with Sony Music (France) to distribute the latest album by  Carlos Núñez.

Patrick Smyth, President of R2 Records says “Carlos Núñez, of Galicia, in northwestern, Spain is a most remarkable musician who has been described by many as the Jimi Hendrix of the bagpipes and we are very fortunate at R2 records that Sony Music (France) chose R2 as the sole Canadian distributor of Carlos’ newest CD -Finisterre: The End of the Earth.”  Finisterre is a cape in northwestern Spain on the coast of La Coruña province; the westernmost point of the Spanish mainland.

This CD is a wonderful jaunt through the Celtic worlds embraced by Carlos Núñez.  It's a marvellous trip skirting the traditional Celtic borders of sadness and joy.  These are Iberian borders and the mood created by Nunez is quite different from that of the Scottish and Irish music on which I was weaned” said Smyth.  This album has a remarkable cast of musicians all of whom were drawn to Nunez because of his huge talent.  This includes Alan Stivell, Dan ArBraz, Gilles Servant, Liam O’Flynn, Eimear Quinn, Patrick Molard.  The track “The Three Pipers” has Nunez, Molard and O’Flynn combining pipes of “fire, water and earth” inviting the listener to decide which is which and “was a realization of a long held dream” said Núñez.>

>R2 Records is a unique music company based in Toronto with a North American target market.  “We have a growing number of bands and individual artists who are turning to R2 Records as their gateway to the large North American community,” said Smyth.  This agreement with Sony France is major recognition not just for R2 but also for the ability of a relatively small Canadian Record Company to handle such a well known artist like Carlos Núñez>  who is extremely well known around the world” said Smyth.

Carlos Nunez will be performing at 3 separate events during Celtic Colours in Cape Breton in October.  Finisterre: The End of the Earth will soon be available in Canada from www.Scotsmarket.com and other fine music stores across the nation.
