Ernán López-Nussa and Habana Project in Madrid
11/12/2003 06:18PM
Contributed by: ARomero

Events(Prensa Latina - Cumbancha) Havana.- Cuban pianist Ernán López-Nussa will perform next Friday in Madrid's Calle 54 Club, whose name inspired moviemaker Fernando Trueba for a documentary. The Cuban musician will be accompanied by Habana Project, made up of renowned musicians from the Caribbean Island, including Changuito, Tata Güines, Pancho Terry and Oliver Valdés. The presence of Terry and Güines shows that López-Nussa grants great importance to percussion, which he places at the same level of the piano: "It has to do with the way I feel jazz," he said.

Previously, he and his quartet were very successful at the Vancouver Festival, in Canada, where he recorded his first CD. From Canada, he traveled to Sao Paulo, where he gave two concerts accompanied by drummer Edu Riberio and bass player Sizao Machado. He won the Grand Prix at Cubadisco'2002 for his album "From Havana to Rio", which was initially recorded by the Brazilian record company Velas. López-Nussa said: "I believe in daily study and a greater opening of the spirit".
