Pablo Milanés Performs in Dominican Republic
11/26/2003 06:17PM
Contributed by: ARomero

Tour Announcements(Prensa Latina - Cumbancha) Santo Domingo, Cuba - Cuban singer songwriter Pablo Milanés received a standing ovation for over three minutes during his reencounter with Dominican audiences, whom he presented with a successful, romantic and nostalgic concert. In a hotel theater in Santo Domingo, the Cuban troubadour recounted his entire musical career and performed love songs for an hour and a half, interrupted by applause and standing ovations from the audience.

After several years without performing in the Dominican Republic, Milanés met his fans’ expectations, singing such favorites as "Vengo naciendo", "Cuánto gané, cuánto perdí", "Días de gloria", "En saco roto" and "Nostalgia". He sang other well-known songs such as "Yolanda", "La vida no vale nada", "Años", "La soledad" and "El tiempo pasa", which he dedicated to his pregnant daughter. Local critics noted that "his voice, which is intact despite the passage of time, generated a deep sensation of tranquility and a sort of ‘flashback’ to the magic years of Cuba’s new song movement."
