Moncada Band Begins New Open Mike Concert Venue
01/25/2004 07:23PM
Contributed by: ARomero

Events(Prensa Latina - Cumbancha) Havana, Cuba - Prestigious Cuban band Moncada’s leader Jorge Gómez announced the beginning of their open mike Hangar 202 program, Friday and Saturday at the Boyeros Fairgrounds. Gomez stated this will be a cultural project with varied music linking the transcendental with the universal, oriented to youths and to those not so young, but with life’s happiness in their soul. Moncada, with an anthology repertoire including Chamamé a Cuba, Fundar una Esperanza and Mágica, is the most spectacular of Cuban free format, fusion Cuban bands.

It expects to have hip hop and pop bands as guests to this Havana’s cultural space. Three decades ago, Gomez and several mates from the University of Havana joined and founded a band aesthetically and conceptually different to the popular bands and orchestras of the time. They became a big hit and were in great demand, while topping the charts.
