(Prensa Latina - Cumbancha) Havana, Cuba - Famous Cuban fusion group Moncada
presented their latest album Dime de donde vienes (Tell me where you come
from) was presented at Havana's Abdala studios Friday by its director Jorge
Gómez. The record, produced by the Unicornio label, includes eight pop songs
including, "Y que no suba la marea," "De bolero para son" and "La rueda de
casino."
Jorge Gómez, founder of Moncada in 1972, stated this is the first album
recorded by the band after the three-disc anthology of their 30-year career.
"The album," he said, "is in line with the dynamics of reunion with old
colleagues, founders of the New Trova such as Eduardo Ramos, Noel Nicola and
Lázaro Garcia," the latter current director of Abdala studios.
According to the
musician, "the recording was meant to be a new vision on what we were doing
before, with differences of sound and harmony, plus the insertion of young
artists who have given a modern touch to the work." In Gómez´s opinion, the
answer to the question the title suggests is Havana, "although not a dilapidated
Havana, but a beautiful one, breathing life and culture," he mentioned.
The
presentation of the album also served to launch the multimedia CD "Canta, baila,
aprende Casino," (Sing, Dance and Learn Casino) also by Moncada on the Unicornio
label. The material is the result of the First International Meeting of Casino
Dance Circles that took place in 2003, based on the famous Cuban dance from the
1950's, in some countries linked to salsa. The multimedia, including excellent
documentation, teaches to dance Casino, a style exhibited in the film Dance
with Me, starring Puerto Rican singer and actor Chayanne and US actress Vanessa
Williams.
