Rodriguez flew to Argentina on Sunday, invited by President Nestor Kirchner to
perform at the gala on Tuesday celebrating his first year in office and the 194
anniversary of the Revolution of May. Before boarding his flight, Silvio told
Prensa Latina that he was "honored by the invitation and very happy with the
opportunity to share the stage with artists from Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil."
Rodriguez returned to Argentina cinco years after he last performed there. The
concert included the participation of Spanish singer-songwriter Luis Eduardo
Aute and the special performance of the Uruguayan band of street musicians Falta
y Resto, the most applauded. Argentine musicians Charly Garcia, Victor Heredia,
Juan Carlos Baglietto, Adriana Varela, Ignacio Copani, Lito Vitale, Teresa
Parodi, and the group Super Ratones also participated in the gala.
The stage, in
front of the Presidential "Casa Rosada," in the square where native Argentineans
gathered on May 25, 1810 to demand the end of Spanish administration and created
the first Argentine government, received Rodriguez with an ovation. He sang 10
of his classics, including "Playa Giron", "Sueños de serpientes", "Historia de
las sillas", "Solo el amor", "A donde van", "Te doy una cancion" and "Cita con
Angeles," the latter along with Victor Heredia. He expressed his appreciation
for the invitation before starting to play and closed with "Pequena serenata
diurna." The night closed with rock musician Charly Garcia´s rendition of his
modern version of the Argentine National Anthem, accompanied by a Chilean music
band.
