05/26/2004 07:53PM
Contributed by: ARomero

Events(Prensa Latina - Cumbancha) Camagüey, Cuba - The longest "Son" in the world continues its "relay race" heading for Havana, with the performance of bands and orchestras without a break in this eastern Cuban province of Camagüey. "Soneros" from Camagüey relieved their colleagues from Las Tunas province at 8 pm (local time) Thursday, to continue the unusual show for 24 hours. Famous local groups such as Maravillas de Florida, Lagrimas Negras, Ritmo Moderno, Sabor Cubano, Jaleo, Pepe Band, Contacto, Soneros de Camacho performed a varied repertoire at the Palacio de la Juventud.

Beginning in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, the marathon concert has passed through the provinces of Guantanamo, Granma and Holguin. The non-stop Son moved on to the central province of Ciego de Avila and will close in late May in Havana, at the closing ceremony of the CUBADISCO 2004 Fair. As part of the project, Camagüey previously organized a colloquium where renowned investigators lectured on the music genre.
