CD ReviewsThe Juan L. Sánchez Ensemble

Hijos de la Tierra (Música Cosmopolita, 2004)

Juan Sánchez is a Spanish singer-songwriter based in California, who collaborates with musicians from various parts of the world. Understanding the Spanish lyrics is fundamental to grasp Sánchez’s social message.  Thankfully, his independent release comes with a handsome booklet that includes the original Spanish lyrics and the translations to English.

>Hijos de la Tierra  [Children of the Earth] is a poetic dedication to the people of the Earth: farm workers, immigrants, poverty as well as a manifest of Sánchez’s experiences. Malian kora master, Mamadou Diabate appears as a guest in several of the pieces.
