The annual Arts Presenters (APAP) conference has created a space for world music presence during their annual conference. There will be a series of Pre-Conference World Music Sessions on Friday January 7th, 2005, at The Hilton New York & Towers in New York City.

The Ecology of World Music: Diverse Perspectives on World Music in North America
An interactive working session with a panel that consists of agents, labels, artists, and presenters. What do we need to do to remain vibrant economically and culturally and continue to expand our audience base? How do we adjust our work within the current political climate? Moderated. Lots of special guests!

Ticket Sales and the Commitment to Dance Across Genres
(a discussion between the World Music session and the Dance Working Group session)

While the field's understanding of civic engagement and the catalytic local and global roles of a presenter has evolved significantly beyond the "buts in seats" approach of the past, presenters unfortunately still find themselves shying away from dance because of poor ticket sales or a perceived lack of audience appeal. Different genres of dance approach selling tickets to dance in different ways. What can be learned from a cross-genre dialogue about selling tickets within the art form of dance? As multi-disciplinary presenters have begun to play an increasingly important role in the dance touring and presenting field, are there marketing strategies that can benefit dance or do multi-disciplinary presenters need increased confidence with dance before they can help stimulate increased ticket sales? For this session, participants in the Dance Working Group sessions and the World Music sessions will join together to consider how our collective expertise can help stimulate ticket sales and dance touring and presenting.

New Trends - New Markets - New Audiences: The World Music Scene Today
New collaborations and world music crossover ideas are flourishing in the classical and jazz world creating new audiences. But, are these trends here to stay, or are they marketing ploys? How and when do you know it’s time to try something new? What challenges do these crossover projects create for labels, presenters, the media and others? A panel will discuss their experiences from a variety of viewpoints. This panel is a pre-cursor to the Monday January 10, 3-5:15pm “It’s All World Music.”
