Kari Iveland’s Impressions of Madagascar
12/26/2004 05:12PM
Contributed by: ARomero

New CDsNorway - Kari Iveland has a new recording, Avtrykk (Impressions), featuring her band playing with choirs and musicians from Madagascar. After releasing the Vektbs (Weightless) CD on the KKV label in 2002, Kari Iveland is now presenting music new and old from Madagascar.

Songs have traveled across oceans and continents and been heard and recreated far from their origins. Such are the impressions on Kari Iveland's new CD. She traveled to Madagascar and found new versions of the songs Europeans exported more than a hundred years ago.

The album features performances by Iveland, four Malagasy choirs, two Malagasy instrumentalists and four Norwegian musicians joining forces to present a Malagasy, Norwegian and international repertoire. The Norwegian musicians are Anders Renningen (guitar, valiha). Rune Arnesen (drums), Sveinung Hovensjo (bass) and 0ivind Christiansen (harmonium). The four Malagasy choirs are Anakoro, Feon 'ny fifohazana Mahavatse, KTKT and Lova. The two Malagasy instrumentalists playing flutes and drums are Patrice Ratsimbazafy and Jean Batiste Ranaivoarisoa.

The CD was recorded in the Cathedral in Tulear in cooperation between Det Norske Misjonsselskap (the Norwegian Missionary Society) and KKV. Avtrykk (KKV FXCD 286) is available from KKV.
