03/24/2005 07:07AM
Contributed by: ARomero

EventsToronto, Canada - Nuno Cristo will present a musical extravaganza dedicated to the music of the Portuguese diaspora with bagpipes and Brazilian drums, Portuguese guitar and Fado, masks and Capoeira, mbira and ukuleles. The event will take place at Lula Lounge, 1585 Dundas St. W., Toronto, on Wednesday, March 30. Doors open at 7:00PM. Show begins at 8:00PM, $10. Phone: (416) 588-0307.

Anticipating the release of his second CD later this year, Nuno Cristo presents a pallet of sounds that belong to the Lusophone imaginary. Travels In Lusomania will take the listener from Trás-os-Montes (Portugal) to India, passing through Africa and Brazil. The instruments that the Portuguese have played, encountered and transported over centuries of travels will be the focus of this concert, a collaboration between local fellow musicians:

Nuno Cristo (bagpipe, ukulele, mbira, campaniça guitar, Portuguese guitar, voice)
Odalis Cuesta (bass)
Larry Lewis (classical guitar)
Helen de Sousa (voice)
Maracatu Nunca Antes (Brazilian percussion ensemble)
Clay & Paper Theatre (masks & costumes)

Special appearance by Catarina Cardeal & Mike Siracusa
