Contributed by: ARomero

EventsBoston, Massachusetts, USA - Malouma is touring the United States of America and she will present a workshop at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. She will highlight the tradition of the griots, traditional instruments in Mauritanian music, various African rhythms, Arabic lyrics and will conclude with a popular song followed by a question/answer period. It's free to the Public. Address: 22 The Fenway, Room F12, 7:30pm, Thursday, April 14, 2005. A map of the campus, including 22 the Fenway is at: http://www.berklee.edu/tour/map.html.

Embracing modern tunes yet spiritually traditional, Malouma performs with a unique melt of African and Arabic rhythms gracefully interweaving blues-accented music with Mauritanian folk, Afro-pop and melodic Arabic lyrics. She is a singer, composer, lyrics writer, musician and women's rights advocate.

Co-sponsors for this event are: The Institute for Near Eastern and African Studies (INEAS), a non-profit organization in Cambridge, MA; The Ensemble Department at Berklee College of Music; and Women’s History Month at Berklee.
