Call for artists for 3rd Sauti za Busara Festival, 9th-12th February 2006
05/09/2005 08:19AM
Contributed by: WMC_News_Dept.

EventsZanzibar, Tanzania - Sauti za Busara is primarily a music festival, but applications are accepted from theatre and dance companies and other performing artists. The main focus is on Swahili music but collaborations with musicians from other parts of the world are very welcome.

All artists wishing to participate in the Festival must send at least one recent recording (CD, cassette, VHS, DVD or VCD) together with artists’ biography, information and a letter of request to participate, to reach office of Busara Promotions (address below) not later than 31 August, 2005.

The Festival Selection Committee will review all applications and select groups bearing in mind artistic creativity and excellence, diversity and gender balance in programming, entertainment and interest value for our local audiences and compatibility with other events in the festival program and budget.

For non-Swahili artists, it is most likely that those selected will be with roots or influences from other parts of the African Continent or diaspora, Middle East or Indian Ocean region; especially artists interested and able to participate in workshops and creative collaborations with other East African musicians.

For artists performing in the Festival or participating in the workshops, in most cases the Festival will cover all local expenses in Zanzibar, including local travel and accommodation, per-diems for food and other incidentals. Additional payments including artists fees are negotiable and entirely at the discretion of Festival Director.

International travel costs to Zanzibar for artists from outside the East African region will only be considered in exceptional cases.
