Ever-G will perform in support of the Florence Crittenton benefit “Reggae 4 A Reason” on Sunday, June 12, 2005 at 3 p.m. on Bowen's Island.

Traditionally, reggae music has been a genre entrenched in social commentary. It’s fitting that Ever-G, roots reggae artist, would accept an invitation from Florence Crittenton to support the needs and issues associated with unplanned pregnancies for women in South Carolina.

Ever-G born, Everett G. Streete, has been exercising his musical gift since the tender age of 4. G was born in the small district of Cash-Hill, Hanover Parish, Jamaica. In 1999 Ever-G released his debut solo CD World Peace. His second project, Independence, was released in 2003. Both CDs received rave reviews and are known for their positive, upbeat messages. February 2005 he released Mission acclaimed for its nostalgic vibe, dreamy melodies, evocative harmonies, and soulful delivery.

Mission is a 12-track CD full of moving Reggae rhythms with Ever-G’s touching and truthful lyrics. The CD will move you beyond what is known as World Music with his soulful voice fusing Blues, Rock, Funk, R&B and other genres of World Music with Reggae. Ever-G adds live horns, strong guitar and hook lines with soulful female background vocals.

Ever-G is one of those rare artists who is able to combine supremely melodic songs with lyrical substance like “What’s UP With the World”, “Teach Us To Love”, “Run Babylon”, and “Take A Look” all from his newly release CD Mission. These songs are trenchant works filled with lyrics dealing with social issues and spiritual inspiration in the best tradition of G’s heroes Bob Marley, Curtis Mayfield and Bob Marley. Although these artists influenced him and his musical style, G still manages to remain original and true to his own style of music.

Florence Crittenton has provided shelter and support for single mothers in South Carolina since 1897. Their Mission is to provide and promote those comprehensive medical, educational and support services, which will most effectively insure the well-being and self-sufficiency of single parents and their children in South Carolina. Ever-G has chronicled the struggles, hopes and issues of the world at large through his music, keeping the fight for peace, love, and unity in the minds and hearts of people all over the world. Ever-G is effectively causing Charleston residents’ hearts to swell in his support to unwed mothers.

Preceding the benefit event, June 11, 2005 Ever-G and the Crew featuring the Irieites will kick off the annual summer entertainment series “Reggae Nights” at the James Island County Park. Sample a taste of the islands from some of Charleston’s favorite restaurants AdMission is $6 for adults and children 12 and under free. Gates open at 7:30pm and the music begins at 8:30 p.m. For more information call (843) 795-4FUN or visit www.ccprc.com.
