World and Rock Showcases at Mercat de Música Viva de Vic 2005

ConferencesVic, Spain - The 17th edition of the Mercat de Música Viva de Vic (MMVV) will take place 15th – 18th September. A half hundred concerts will be presented in 7 stages around the city. Artists from sixteen countries are represented in the program. For this edition and as newness the MMVV presents thematic nights sessions:

Musicians from Morocco and Catalonia (Spain) will present "Connexió Argan", a co production between MMVV and the Festival Timitar of Agadir. The concert will be presented at the Cinema Vigatà stage. The artists are: Xavier Maureta, Driss El Maloumi, Rachid Zeroual, Albert Bover, Llibert Fortuny, Lhocine Baqir and Raimon Ferrer.

The same day, at night, the project: Made in Barcelona (a CD featuring 30 Catalan indie rock bands). Four of these bands: Ovni, Unfinished Sympathy, Standstill and Sidonie will be at the Sucre’s stages.

On Friday at the Plaça Major’s stage: "Festival Habana Blues". Live presentation the three bands from the film Habana Blues, by the Spanish director Benito Zambrano. The film is showed in all Spanish theatres. The urban and emergent music from the Cuban underground scene: Qvba Libre, Free Hole Negro and Habana Blues Band.

The latest thematic session, on Saturday at Sucre’s stages: "Música y compromiso", artists from three different countries in Latin America. La Bruja (Mexico), the hip-hop bands Tiro de Gracia (Chile) and Vagos y Maleantes (Venezuela), and Haze (Andalusia-Spain). They have in common the importance of the lyrics in their songs.

To round off the program, many international concerts by Garmarna (Sweden), Los de Abajo (Mexico), Alberto Rojo (Argentina), Liliana Herrero (Argentina) Puente Celeste (Argentina), Bevano Est (Italy), Mauro Pagani (Italy), Mostar Sevdah Reunion & Ljiljana Buttler (Bosnia-Herzegovina), Rassegna (France), Mariem Hassan (Western Sahara), Aïwa (France), Achanak (UK), Kasse Mady Diabate (Mali), Omar Sosa (Cuba), Gabriel Yacoub (France) and Marenostrum (Portugal).

There will also be artists from Spain: Son de la Frontera (Andalusia), Xarnege (Basque Country), Alós Quartet (Basque Country), Couscous Party (Aragon), as well as local Catalan acts: Duquende, Les Violines, Víctor Bocanegra, La Kinky Beat, Gossos, Quintet Zirkus, Tactum, Morphing, Mishima, La Folata, Aufgang, Duo Ganzer Salleras, La Cava Big Band and Notícia del Regne de Mallorques.

During the day at the trade fair there will be 2 stages to present 19 showcases with exhibitors’ proposals; exclusively for professionals and press registered at MMVV. This program will be published on the website end of July.

International delegations from Mexico, Brazil, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Argentina will attend the MMVV. Allso, the members of the European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals (EFWM) will convene for their annual general meeting.
