Celtic Flamencos

CD ReviewsMarcos Teira

Punta de Cabío (Xingra, 2002)

Most flamenco guitar albums come either from Andalusia (southern Spain), the large Flamenco enclave in Madrid or the smaller Barcelona scene. This album, however, comes from the Celtic part of Spain, Galicia.

Guitar virtuoso Marcos Teira has absorbed many of the contemporary influences found in modern Flamenco. He uses jazz phrasings, electric bass, percussion, flute and less conventional instruments such as clarinet and tuba. But there is still a deep Flamenco essence in the music, which makes this inspired album a valuable acquisition.
