Historical Hopi Songs

New CDsPhoenix (Arizona), USA - From the Hopi village of Hoat'Ve'La on the Third Mesa in Arizona, traditional singer Clark Tenakhongva shares the Hopi vision of life through his original songs on his second recording, Hoat'Ve'La: Traditional Songs of the Hopi. Reflecting the prayerful and gentle way of life lived by the Hopi for centuries, these songs convey the heart and spiritual landscape of this ancient people.

All songs are original with the exception of Adios Amigo, Hoat'Ve'La, Señorita and Adios. These songs form a set and represent the cultural changes that came from contact with the Spanish beginning in the 1500's. The songs are sung with some Spanish words giving a flavor of the Spanish/Mexican culture.

Clark follows the traditions of the Hopi, participating extensively in the Kiva ceremonies, village ceremonies and other related cultural and spiritual activities. He is involved in tribal government and is currently employed with the federal government in the office of Veterans' Outreach Services, Dark's debut recording. Hear My Song, Hear My Prayer, was a finalist for Best Traditional Recording at the 2005 Native American Music Awards.
