Afenginn

Retrograd (Tutl Shd67, 2004)

Hailing from Denmark, Afengin do not play what you would expect from a Nordic country. Instead, the band plays breakneck polkas, Klezmer sounds and other types of music with an unconventional line-up. Sure, there is the required clarinet and violin, but there is also mandolin and mandola, xylophone and many other instruments. This is certainly not the ballroom dance music of your grandparent’s generation.

Afenginn also has a taste for fun and theatrics. The CD comes with two high-speed music videos featuring the musicians setting up a rehearsal and gobbling up food at a restaurant. It recalls the the era of silent film comedies.
