Contributed by: WMC_News_Dept.

ObituariesHavana, Cuba - Guitarist and composer Noel Nicola died of cancer in Havana on Sunday, August 7. He was 58. In a week when many Cubans are still mourning the death of Ibrahim Ferrer, a younger generation is mourning the death of another important figure in Cuban music. Nicola was one of the pioneers of the Nueva Trova movement in the late 1960s.

Nicola's body of work includes 350 songs, movie and TV soundtracks, theater scores, and orchestrations. His better known songs are "Por la vida juntos," "Para una imaginaria María del Carmen," "Comienzo el día," "Son oscuro" and "Es más, te perdono."
