 Omara Portuondo
Sentimiento (Escondida ESC 6516-2, 2005)
Omara
Portuondo is perhaps the most important living Cuban female singer.
Sentimiento is a great introduction to her long career. Most of the material
is from the 1980s up to the mid 1990s. The album includes steamy boleros,
captivating guarachas, fiery son, passionate ballads, cha cha chá and a few
standards.
After many decades of hard work, she was “rediscovered” internationally in the
1990s by an independent Spanish record label, Nubenegra. Later came British
label World Circuit and the
Buena Vista Social Club series.
