EventsSingapore - WOMAD Singapore will present WOMAD in the Heartlands on Saturday, August 20 at 6:30pm at the Punggol. Admission is free. Jointly organized by WOMAD Projects Singapore and the Northeast Community Development Council, the open field opposite to Compass Point will be transformed into a night of high-energy and diverse performances by WOMAD artists onstage, together with WOMAD's hallmark festival flags and a Global Village laden with international foods and merchandise.

Artists Appearing at in the Heartlands:

Cara Dillon (Ireland)

This young singer-songwriter has won the hearts across Europe in just a few short years with her irresistibly natural personality and mesmerizing ability to relate a great story in song, is an all-embracing quality that defies borders, cultures and even languages.

Ravibandhu Vidyapathy & Ensemble (Sri Lanka)

Classical Kandyan dancer and renowned boundary-breaking choreographer Ravibandhu will coordinate and direct performances of the percussion and dance of Sri Lanka. Distinct drumming and dance traditions will be represented, reflecting the huge cultural diversity to be found throughout the island.

Sri Anura (Sri Lanka)

The tradition of puppetry in Sri Lanka goes back 250-300 years. Nalin Gamvary began to craft string puppets from a young age, taught and inspired by his father and is adept at carving, making and animating while singing and improvising dialogue. Marvel at the wonders of Sri Anura puppets that come alive with Nalin's magical fingers.

DJ r-H (Singapore)
