New York City (New York), USA - Arkadia DVD, the new DVD Label of Arkadia Records,
has announced the DVD release of the 86 minute indie film
masterpiece by Director Cecilia Domeyko, Cuba Mia: Portrait
of An All Woman Orchestra.
Amazingly talented, incredibly beautiful, Cuban to the core, this story of the musicians of the all-woman Camerata Romeu is filled with dazzling faces and fiery performances that astonish and delight. The release captures a musical Cuba rarely seen before.
These are hard times in Cuba, but you would never know it from this spirited group. They are led by Zenaida Romeu, one of the world’s few women conductors, a woman born into a family of Cuban performers and composers spanning several generations.
By turns funny, angry, lyrical, and moving, Cuba Mia takes us behind the scenes as ten dedicated musicians juggle a fierce rehearsal schedule ( they play everything from memory) with boyfriends, girlfriends, grandparents and children, offering a slice of Cuban life seldom seen on the world’s screens. Theirs are young lives filled with dreams and sacrifices, victories and defeats, numbing work and moments of genius.
Cuba Mia offers an unforgettable message of hope, demonstrating the power of music to cross boundaries of nation, gender, and time. It is an inspiring film matching stirring music with brilliant editing and memorable images ─ a celebration of talent, daring, imagination and dedication.
As an additional twist, Arkadia DVD is also releasing the CD soundtrack album of the complete performances in film. According to label president Bob Karcy, “ Our goal at Arkadia DVD is clear… To produce high quality programming, using state of the art technology that will allow consumers to enjoy them whether relaxing at home, or throughout their day’s activities.”
The award winning-documentary has garnered tremendous acclaim through its current airing on PBS stations across the country.
With a release schedule set for 8 to 12 titles per year, upcoming titles from Arkadia DVD Concerts include those from Arkadia Records recording artist, guitarist Nigel Clark; saxophonist/composer Benny Golson in concert with Jon Hendricks and Art Farmer; and Christian Howes, voted #2 Rising Star in the Downbeat Critics Poll.
