 New York City (New York ), USA – Radio City Music Hall will host its own “From The Big Apple to the Big Easy,” New York City’s Concert for the Gulf Coast, coinciding with the All-Star concert being held at Madison Square Garden on September 20th. This is the first time that the two legendary venues – the World’s Most Famous Arena and the Showplace of the Nation – have joined together to hold simultaneous benefit concerts.
Radio City Music Hall event
Appearing on the Great Stage at Radio City Music Hall as part of “From the Big
Apple to the Big Easy” will be Dave Matthews; Tom Waits; Trey Anastasio; John
Mayer Trio; Joss Stone; The Meters; Galactic with the Mardi Gras Indians; Ray
Lamontagne. Additional artists to be announced soon.
Madison Square Garden event
Madison Square Garden announced several new performers that will join its
All-Star line-up at the Garden, including Elvis Costello; Diana Krall; Simon & Garfunkel; Clarence “Frogman” Henry; Dave Bartholomew; Irma Thomas; Kermit
Ruffins and Troy “Tromboneshorty” Andrews. They will perform with previously
announced performers: Bette Midler; Elton John; Jimmy Buffett; John Fogerty;
Lenny Kravitz;
Ry
Cooder; Steve Nicks; Fats Domino; the Neville Brothers;
Buckwheat Zydeco; the Meters; Allen Toussaint; the Dirty Dozen Brass Band
and The Rebirth Brass Band. Rod Stewart can no longer participate due to injury.
All Proceeds Benefit Relief and Rebuilding Efforts
Madison Square Garden is underwriting 100% of all concert production costs
related to “From The Big Apple to the Big Easy” New York City’s Concert for the
Gulf Coast, and has pledged an additional $1 million dollar donation to begin
the event’s fundraising efforts. 100% of all money raised from ticket sales will
go directly to organizations involved in the region’s relief and rebuilding
efforts, including the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund; Habitat for Humanity;
MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund and the Children’s Health Fund.
The Bush Clinton Katrina Fund serves as an umbrella organization
for the three funds established by the Governors of Alabama, Louisiana and
Mississippi and will focus on collecting donations to assist in the long-term
recovery plan for these states. Habitat for Humanity has launched Operation Home
Delivery - a bold initiative focused on rebuilding houses in these devastated
communities. MusiCares has established its Hurricane Relief Fund for people in
the music industry who have been affected by this disaster and who are in need
of assistance. The Children’s Health Fund is expanding its fleet of mobile
medical vans and dispatching them to the Gulf Coast to provide on-the-spot
medical care for children in need of quality healthcare.
Tickets for the Madison Square Garden event go on sale on Tuesday, September
13th at 10:00am.
Tickets for the Radio City Music Hall event go on sale Thursday, September 15th
at 10:00am.
