Cirque du Soleil's Most Ambitious Recording

Montreal, Canada - The latest release by
Cirque du Soleil is
Ka . The CD brings the visual language of cinema to a dazzling live event that is
more about storytelling than any previous Cirque du Soleil production. The
show's underlying theme of duality is underscored by the opposing powers of
fire to create and to destroy. It is a live-action epic spectacle, instead
of captured on film it is captured on stage. The music is brought together
with astonishing acrobatic performances, the thrills and action of martial
arts from all over the world, astonishing innovations in puppetry,
multimedia and pyrotechnics to tell the epic story of a set of twins on a
perilous journey to fulfill then-shared destiny.
Longtime Cirque du Soleil
composer Rene Dupere created the music for
Ka. Dupere has composed the music
for 6 Cirque du Soleil productions, including
Alegria,
Mystere, and
Saltimbanco.
Alegria is the most successful Cirque du Soleil album
to date. Dupere two Felix Awards in Canada and a Grammy
nomination. That recording spent 65 weeks on the Billboard World Music
Chart. To create this cinematic feel Cirque du Soleil composer Rene Dupere
worked with Simon Leclerc at the Paramount Studios in Hollywood. Leclerc was
the conductor of both Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise television series,
as well as the stage productions of Les Miserables and the Quebec production
of Dracula.
The production included a 57-piece symphony orchestra and a 40-member choir.
All told there were almost 140 people involved with the musical production
of the
Ka recording. As with previous Cirque du Soleil productions, the
lyrics in the songs are all in an invented language. This CD recording does
feature two bonus tracks, sung in English. The epic and lyrical music of
Ka reveals itself through the imposing rhythm of "Storm", the celestial voice
on "Flight", the majestic strings of "Love Dance" and the serene candor of" 0 Makunde". It is the most ambitious recording produced by Cirque du Soleil.
