The artists featured in this compilation represent the contemporary face of Turkish music. Some of them are based in Turkey, others are expatriates. Two of the most captivating are Aziza A and Sultana. Both artists combine Turkish music with hip hop and electronica.
Other artists featured include Mercan Dede, who is based in Montreal; the trance-like sounds of Wax Poetic and Oojami; and the dub reggae of Brooklyn Funk Essentials.
This album demonstrates how you can combine modern dance grooves with traditional instruments in a way that is refreshing and highly creative.
