If you added up the amount of rambling these boys have done between them during their careers, the resulting mileage would take you round the world several times over. More than survivors of the great 1960s folk-song revival, coming together from both sides of the Atlantic, all these artists have become tradition-bearers and source singers in their turn. As eloquent interpreters of both old ballads and contemporary material, as writers of enduring individual compositions, as storytellers and, not least, as gifted and groundbreaking instrumentalists, they have each left an indelible mark on the recent history of Scottish and North American music.
