Poncho Sánchez Concert Dedicated to the Memory of Ray Barretto
03/02/2006 02:31AM
Contributed by: ARomero

EventsNew York, USA – Poncho Sánchez celebrates his 20th year as a bandleader with his 20th release, Soul of the Conga March 2 – 5, at 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. nightly, at the Blue Note. The club is located at 131 West Third Street in the Village (New York), Tickets are $35 at tables and $20 at the bar.

While the four-day engagement commemorates two decades of great Latin jazz, the Blue Note and Poncho dedicate the performances to the memory of Ray Barretto, one of the world’s most renowned conga players, who passed away February 17.

The band scheduled to perform includes Poncho Sánchez (congas), George Ortiz (timbales), René Camacho (bass), Kye Palmer (trumpet), Javier Vergara (alto/tenor sax), Francisco Torres (trombone), Alfredo Ortiz (bongos/tres), David Torres (piano).
