Silk Hope (North Carolina), USA - The Spring Shakori Hills
GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance has announced the addition of
Hugh
Masekela to the program. The festival will be held April 20-23 in Silk Hope,
North Carolina.
"We're so excited to welcome
Hugh
Masekela a legend in his own right who has blended jazz, funk and
afro-beat to mourn the tragedy of apartheid and rejoice at its demise," said
a festival spokesman. "He's played his trumpet with Louis Armstrong and Paul
Simon, and he'll be capping off a weekend full of music, dance and celebration
at Shakori with his Sunday performance."
The Avett Brothers are coming back, along with The Duhks, Luminescent Orchestrii, the festival's good friends Donna the Buffalo and Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band. "We've also got North Carolina's own Barefoot Manner, Mad Tea Party and Yo Momma's Big Fat Booty Band, and still more world flavor from Cyro Baptista and Corey Harris. Plus Little Green Chairs, the Red Stick Ramblers, Slaid Cleaves, West End Mambo."
