 Chicago (Illinois), USA - The
Goran
Ivanovic Group will embark on their first major tour this month. Combining
Eastern European folk tunes with jazz-influenced compositions, the Group’s
Balkan fusion has successfully been packing venues throughout the country since
the release of their self-titled debut album in 2005.
Goran Ivanovic, a guitar virtuoso noted for his lightning-fingered finesse
and his complex interpretations of even the simplest melodies, has teamed up
with Doug Rosenberg on saxophone, Matthew Ulery on bass, and Michael Caskey on
drums. Together, they take a fluid, cohesive approach to their compositions and
consistently create beautiful music without borders.
The Goran Ivanovic Group’s record features a dramatic opener, “Gates To The
Unknown,” followed by twelve stunning tracks. As a result of their well-produced
album,
Seven Boats, Music for Two Guitar , they have collaborated with
musical greats Wynton Marsalis,
Danilo
Pérez, Bob Moses, Michael Franti, and Fareed Haque.
The quartet regularly performs at prestigious venues such as the Chicago
Symphony Center, The Green Mill, and has conquered mainstream rock venues such
as Metro and The Double Door. The band’s “Blacksmith’s Dance” was selected out
of thousands of submissions to be one of three finalists in this year’s John
Lennon Songwriting Competition.
