Events

Boston (Massachusetts), USA - On Monday, April 10 and Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 7:30pm, the troupe Legends of West Africa will perform on stage at the Regent Theatre in Arlington in a dynamic and exhilarating celebration of West Africa’s ethnic heritage. The Regent Theatre is located at 7 Medford Street, Arlington, MA 02474. Box Office (for tickets and group sales). Tel: 781-646-4TIX (4849), Fax: 781-643-4747.

Under the guidance of artistic director, Mamady Keita, and choreographer, Moustopha Bangoura, the event will feature 12 professional dancers, singers, and drummers recreating the essence of music and dance from the Republic of Guinea.

The artists in the ensemble are considered Masters, or jeli (tribal musical historians). It is the jeli’s responsibility and obligation to assure that the next generation of artists maintains the authenticity and purity of West African musical traditions.

The concert is sponsored by The DrumConnection Boston.
