Old Town School of Folk Music's AfroFolk Program Presents Strong Ras Family Reggae Tour

EventsChicago (Illinois), USA - The Old Town School of Folk Music will bring the Strong Ras Family Tour to the South Shore Cultural Center May 13 as the first of the Old Town School's AfroFolk series of free concerts at the Center. Reggae artists Norrisman from Jamaica, Jah Dan from Brooklyn, N.Y. and Jah Lock from Belize are featured in the series opener. South Shore Cultural Center is located at 7059 South Shore Drive, Chicago 60649. Admission is free.

Featured artists:

Norrisman has recorded hundreds of songs and dazzled audiences around the globe with his spiritually uplifting Reggae performances. His roots in the Arnett Gardens and Trenchtown areas of Kingston, Jamaica, and a style marked by his signature voice and powerful delivery, Norrisman is an ongoing builder of new school roots and culture.

Jah Dan is internationally known for his work on the classics “Sound Bwoy Buriell” and "D&D Soundclash" as well as in features with Branford Marsalis, DJ Premier, Dead Prez and Bootcamp Clik. Currently the front man for the internationally acclaimed Brooklyn, N.Y. band Noble Society, Jah Dan will release a solo album sometime this year.

Jah Lock Zebulun has performed among the A list of Reggae artist including Ras Shiloh, Yami Bolo, Half Pint, Tony Rebel, Jah Dan, Major Mackerel, Jr. Reid, and Midnite in the United States. His 2006 CD release titled “Strong Ras Family” on the Lustre King Productions and Africa I Am label is layered with free-flowing edges of an eclectic music mix that is seasoned with Reggae, Hip Hop and World music.
