Music Journalist and World Music Programmer Xabier Rekalde Dies at 55

ObituariesMadrid, Spain - One of Spain's best known music journalists, Xabier Rekalde died in a car accident in Guadalajara (Spain) on May 4th.

He was born Patxi Xabier Ayuso Maeso in Bilbao in 1951, although he was better known as Xabier Rekalde. He was a writer, poet and cinematographer, but he became better known as a journalists. He was one of the leading music critics in Spain, writing about jazz, folk, African and Middle Eastern music in some of Madrid's leading publications. He also worked for several world music festivals, in charge of music programming, and produced world music compilations.
