London, England - The Dancing Turtle label in London is holding
another benefit world music event in
London this September, Friday 1st, at 9pm-4am at Jamm, Brixton, London SW9.
Musicians, performers and DJs from around the world will be coming together,
raising funds and awareness for the native people of West Papua who, according
to the organizers "face extinction at the hands of the occupying Indonesian
forces."
Set over two rooms with an outside space too, live performances will be
coming from ex
Fela
Kuti band member Dele Sosimi, appearing with his critically acclaimed
Afrobeat Orchestra. Also on the bill is the sensational Brazilian steel band
Maracatu, as well as
London blues legend Errol Linton, and native West Papuan act The Lani
Singers.
DJ sets will come from Mixmaster Morris (Ninja Tune), global club and music
producer Rita Ray (The Shrine) and Russ Jones of Europe's leading beats
collective, Future World Funk.
Extras include capoeira performances, fire displays, visuals, human rights
projections and comedy sketches, as well global munchies and DJs spinning
everything from dub reggae to Latin.
There will be a live streaming of the event online at
www.piratetv.net from 22:00 (10 pm) GMT.
All proceeds from the evening going directly to West Papuan refugee
support programs.
