A newly released CD, The Komitas Project, captures Armenian folk melodies as collected through the musicologist Komitas (1869-1935) and conveys it through modern instrumentation mixed with folk instruments.

While the CD's main narrative is the life and state of mind of Komitas, who is the foremost collector of traditional Armenian folk melodies, the recording also reinterprets these melodies through a new prism.

Traditional instruments such as the duduk, shvi, dhol are presented with piano, bass, drums, viola, cello, clarinet and the recorded voice of Komitas (recorded in 1912) to produce a unique blend of music that is world-folk at its heart but is reinterpreted through composer Ara Sarkissian.
