Scottish Harp and Cello Festival
02/06/2007 06:48AM
Contributed by: WMC_News_Dept.

EventsThe first ever Scottish Harp and Cello Festival will be held in Milngavie, near Glasgow (Scotland) on the weekend of February 24th – 25th. There will be classes and workshops during the day and a concert and ceilidh on the Saturday evening. The concert will feature Scottish harp and cello duo, Cheyenne Brown and Seylan Baxter supported by The Duplets.

Cheyenne, from Alaska, (Scottish harp) and Seylan (Scots cello and vocals) met while studying Scottish music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. They quickly realized how good these two instruments sound together and they have been performing regularly as a duo ever since. They are currently recording their debut CD and have a busy schedule lined up over the next few months including concerts in Wales, Spain and Germany.

All classes will be taught by ear, as is the norm in Scottish traditional music, but it’s not necessary to have previous experience of this as participants will find it’s not as hard as they might expect. The main emphasis will be on learning Scottish tunes and accompaniment styles in a fun, relaxed way, and there will be opportunities for cellists and harpers to play together.

Anyone interested in registering for the weekend of classes can contact info@celloharp.com or call 00 44 141 956 3919 for more information.
