The Breathing of the World (Sky Hook Music, 2007)

April is National Poetry Month in the United States, which makes the latest release by composer Rob Silvan a very appropriate listen. The Breathing of the World, the new full-length CD on Silvan's own Sky Hook Music label contains 13 songs formed from the words of sacred poetry.

The album blends jazz, classical, triple-A and new age musical styles with lyrics (poems) by the likes of W.B. Yeats, Rumi, Emily Dickinson, T.S. Elliot, Antonio Machado and many others.

Rob Silvan creates beautiful compositions that accompany these great poetic works quite effectively which leads to an interesting musical/poetic experience. The smooth sounds contained on The Breathing of the World are well-executed by Sylvan on piano and vocals with a wonderful supporting cast of players. Vocals, cello, saxophone, flutes and other sounds help make this recording a very pleasant listen!
