Bosnia has suffered a lot in recent times and musicians are now bringing back joy to the Balkan nation. Mostar Sevdah Reunion continues the proud tradition of crosscultural Bosnian music. On A Secret Gate one can hear the influences of the various cultures that left their mark in the area: Turkish music and Balkan folk melodies, using fiddle, accordion, and clarinet as lead instruments along with the vocals of Mustafa Santic and Ilijaz Delic.
After the brutal destruction of most of Bosnia, Mostar Sevdah Reunion brings healing by combining virtuoso instrumentalists from the three main ethnicities present in Bosnia: Croats, Serbs and Bosniacs (Muslims).
On The Legends of Life, Mostar Sevdah Reunion teams up with the legendary Gypsy singer Ljiljana Buttler. Her smoky sound makes you think of Cesaria Evora, with a Balkan Gypsy touch.
The Legends of Life has a European jazz cafe feel, with jazz swing jazz grooves and bluesy pieces, combining Buttler's unique vocals with inspiring accordion, guitar and fiddle.
