Listo para Llevar (Several Records SRD-351, 2007)
Tradere is a contemporary folk music band from ancient Castile (Spain). The six veteran musicians take Spanish traditional folk music and adapt, using unconventional arrangements. What characterizes their sound on Listo para llevar (ready to wear) is the use of a jazz combo section formed by drums/percussion, bass and guitar combined with saxophone, oboe and Spanish dulzaina (a folk reed instrument).
Sometimes the musicians go into instrumental excursions, featuring beautiful duets between the saxophone and reed instruments.
Not all the arrangements are jazz inspired. At times, the band plays folk rock tunes, while at others the saxophone work seems inspired by the great Paul Winter.
The material used comes primarily from Castille, including corridos and seguidillas. There are also harvest songs, a religious piece and even Mongo Santamaría's "Afro Blue."
The CD booklet comes with lyrics and descriptions in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.
