Voodoo Love Inna Champeta Land (World Music Network (TUGCD1035), 2007)

This one of those occasions when an album is so good and feels so fresh and creative, it's a pleasure to share it with other music lovers.

Voodoo Love Inna Champeta Land joins Colombian singers with some of the finest West African singers. What differentiates this CD from other projects is the fact that the Colombian singers are well known champeta singers of African origin. Champeta music was developed in Cartagena and other coastal cities in the Caribbean side of Colombia. This thriving music style absorbed musical influences from Africa and the Caribbean that were brought by sailors, travelers and radio broadcasts from overseas.

The musical blend sounds fantastic, combining Afro-Colombian styles (champeta, cumbia) and beats with salsa and excellent West African guitar playing. Each song has excellent grooves and musicianship. Let's hope there are more collaborations of this kind.

This CD is clearly one of the best of 2007. Highly recommended.

But Voodoo Love Inna Champeta Land.
