afro\:baile Records presents The Southern Root (afro\:baile Records, 2008)

Arizona-based world music label afro\:baile Records has released this compilation of world beat artists from the U.S.A., Brazil, Jamaica, Latin America and Africa. Unlike other compilations, which focus on well known artists, DJ Seduce's The Southern Root introduces a collection of musicians who have had little exposure, even in world music circles.

Compilations such as this are a great way to discover new talent. The genres included in The Southern Root's 11 tracks  include several rock en español acts, Afrobeat, Mexican-style cumbia, lounge, a rootsy samba batucada, and reggae.

The label's name "afro\:baile" (afro = African inspired music, baile = dance) comes from the afro\:baile monthly event that won  the 2006 Best of Phoenix Award - "Best New World Music Night".
