The Budos Band Will perform this Thursday March 27th at World Music Venue S.O.B.’s. Chico Mann will be the special guest. The Budos Band hails from Staten Island (New York) and offers a pioneering mix of Afrobeat music and Soul. A twelve-piece group that includes horns, drums and a chékere, the band is obviously comfortable with a sound that effortlessly highlights its numerous instruments.

The group has been described as “the un-heralded emperors of Instrumental Staten Island Afro-Soul”. Their debut album, The Budos Band , was heralded as a groundbreaking exploration of funk, afro-beat and soul music and the second effort released in 2007, and simply entitled The Budos Band II, continues the mission begun on the first. With influences that include Antibalas, the Sugarman Three, and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings the Band has crafted a unique sound.

Chico Mann is the brainchild of Antibalas' guitarist, Marquitos, and exemplifies a fresh take on the genre pioneered by Fela Kuti  syncopated bass and guitar strumming mesh with keyboard melodies and Marquitos' harmony-laden vocals creating a sonic cornucopia that is a stand-out sound that displays a crossover between Afrobeat and electronics without missing a step, and can only be described as Live Electro-Afrobeat.
