Carlos Santana Plays Blues at Montreux 2004 (Eagle Rock Entertainment, 2008)

Guitarist Carlos Santana is well known for his eclectic taste. He is better recognized as a rock guitarist, but he also enjoys playing cutting edge fusion, blues, Latin music, R&B and world beat. Carlos Santana Plays Blues at Montreux 2004, videotaped live at the reputable Montreux Jazz Festival in 2004, features Santana with several of his favorite blues legends, including the late Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown, Bobby Parker and Buddy Guy.

The DVD begins with a four song set featuring Santana with Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown. As one would imagine at a jazz festival, the songs' lengths are extended beyond studio versions, with a series of spectacular solos and improvisations by the various instrumentalists, including guitar, trombone, and sax solos.

Washington DC-based Bobby Parker has spent time in the hospital lately, but at this performance in Montreux he was still in great shape and treats the viewers to a scorching blues rock guitar fest with dueling guitars, Latin beats, fabulous harmonica solos and electric organ.

 

The thrilling night in Montreux in 2004 concludes with more masterful blues performance with Santana and the legendary Buddy Guy. Eagle Vision has previously released a 3 DVD set of the whole night, but this single disc version which features all the Carlos Santana performances from the event, with over 90 minutes of blues music.
