General News

The Celtic Connections 2008 produces several changes in the festival program. American fiddle, banjo and guitar player Bruce Molsky has joined the bill for the Transatlantic Sessions concerts. Heidi Talbot has confirmed a top line-up for her concert in St. Andrew’s in the Square featuring John McCusker, Boo Hewerdine, Ewen Vernal and special guests.

The Celtic Connections Whisky Workshops in conjunction with Black Bottle – the official blend of the festival - will take place every Saturday of the festival at City Halls, from 4pm.

Sharon Shannon will not be appearing in the Celtic Connections Festival Orchestra line-up due to unforeseen commitments.
Meanwhile, the concert featuring Liam Clancy & members of Danú with Archie Fisher at the Old Fruitmarket has changed time from 9pm to 8pm.

Many of the acts appearing at Celtic Connections 2008 have recently received awards and nominations. Julie Fowlis, Kate Rusby, Martin Simpson, While & Matthews, Bellowhead, Lau, Andy Cutting, John McCusker and Martin Green have all earned nominations in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, while Lisa Knapp picked up a nomination in the folk awards and also won MOJO magazine’s Folk Album of the Year for her debut release Wild And Undaunted.

Over in the United States, Steve Earle and Allison Moorer, Russ Barenberg, Cherryholmes and Jim Lauderdale have all picked up Grammy nominations.

Some of the leading names in folk and world music will perform in Glasgow January 2008 at the 15th Celtic Connections festival. Taking place over 19 days in January and February in 14 venues across Glasgow, Celtic Connections is the UK’s premier Celtic music festival, with over 300 concerts, ceilidhs, talks, free events, late night sessions and workshops.
