Celtic Fiddle Festival Tours North America to Promote New CD, Équinoxe

Contributed by: WMC_News_Dept.

New ReleasesCeltic Fiddle Festival celebrates the violin in all its globe-trotting variations on their new CD, Équinoxe. The current line-up of the group includes Kevin Burke (Ireland), Christian Lemaître (Brittany, France), André Brunet (Quebec, Canada), and Ged Foley (UK, Ireland) on guitar. Recorded in Ireland and Quebec, Équinoxe will be released on February 12, 2008. It is the group's fifth CD and first on Kevin Burke 's new Loftus Music label, following a string of acclaimed recordings on Green Linnet. Celtic Fiddle Festival will embark on a North American tour in late February and March.

Fiddlers Kevin Burke (Ireland), Christian Lemaître (Brittany, France) and André Brunet (Quebec), accompanied by English musician Ged Foley on guitar, showcase a fascinating juxtaposition of individual styles. With Lemaitre's hypnotic Breton melodies, and newest member Brunet (La Bottine Souriante) bringing his foot-stomping French-Canadian tunes, the "Celtic" festival takes on a French flair. The group weaves music from Quebec, Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Sweden and more into complex arrangements, performed with the precision of a chamber quartet or the rip-roaring force of an international hoe-down.

Celtic Fiddle Festival began as a tour in 1992 with original members Burke, Lemaitre and the legendary Scottish fiddler Johnny Cunningham. With Cunningham's untimely death in 2003, the band was left with an impossible hole to fill in their line-up and hearts. Young Brunet stepped in, lifting tempos and spirits. The band released an album in 2004,  Play On... (Green Linnet), dedicated to Cunningham.
