Cheb i Sabbah

Devotion (Six Degrees, 2008)

One of the masters of global electronica, Cheb i Sabbah, returns to the Indian subcontinent for inspiration with yet another extraordinary CD,  his 7th, titled Devotion. Like a good wine, Cheb i Sabbah gets better with time. With the help of Indian and Pakistani musicians he delivers a rich tapestry of South Asian beats and melodies, including Bhajans, Kirtans, Bhangra, Qawwali, Hindu devotional. The seamless integration of electronics with ancient songs and instruments is not as easy as it seems, but Cheb i Sabbah delivers extraordinary results.

The extraordinary line-up of guests includes  Anup Jalota, the top singer of Hindu kirtans and bhajans in India; Rana Singh, a reputed Sikh gurbani singer; Punjabi Master Saleem. Qalanderi; Qawwali singer Riffat Sultana, daughter of the late, great Pakistani classical singer Ustad Salamat Ali Khan; Harnam Singh; and Indian classical singer Shubha Mudgal.

Cheb i Sabbah will be presenting the new Cd in the East coast ofc the United states this month. March 14, 2008, at 9:30PM
he will be playing at Bohemian Caverns/Liv in Washington DC and March 15 at 10:00PM at Drom in New York City, New York.
