Contributed by: WMC_News_Dept.

EventsFourteen members of the Kurdish Children and Youth Music Group are coming to San Francisco World Music Festival this year. Currently living in Diyarbakir (Amed), they are coming directly to San Francisco for their only premier performances in the Bay Area. They are 14 girls and boys from 8 to 16 years of age. This is an amazing and committed group of young people singing in their native Kurdish, plus in Armenian, Hebrew, Assyrian, and Russian, to a total of eight languages.

All of the group members play percussion instruments of davul, darbuka and arbane, in addition to the lute tembur. Originally from the most disadvantaged parts of Amed they have successfully performed in numerous festivals throughout the region to great acclaim.
