On June 16th, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall welcomes back one of Scotland’s most celebrated contemporary singer-songwriters, Dougie Maclean.
 
 Dougie Maclean has enjoyed world-wide success as a singer-songwriter, composer and band member (having enjoyed stints in the Tannahill Weavers and Silly Wizard in the early stages of his career). His music featured prominently in the film Last of the Mohicans and his song Caledonia went straight to number 1 in the Scottish charts when it was covered by Frankie Miller, and is now considered something of a national anthem.
 
 A Celtic Connections favorite, MacLean performed at the first ever festival in 1994 and has returned many times since, showcasing brand new commissions and playing to sell-out audiences in The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall over the years. For this one-off Glasgow date this summer he will be joined by his five-piece acoustic band of talented multi-instrumentalists.

MacLean has performed with, co-produced tracks and written music for American Grammy Award-winning country singer Kathy Mattea. Their friendship and close musical association was highlighted in a 1997 BBC documentary, SongRoads - A Musical Friendship from Nashville to Dunkeld. He has been the focus of another two films - Children of Sea (Clann na Mara) (2001) and The Land – Songs of Dougie Maclean (1993) and in 1995 he wrote and recorded the music for the BBC television series A Mug’s Game. In May 2007 the music of Dougie and Jamie MacLean was commissioned for the BBC TV documentary A Highland Empire.

With his artist wife Jennifer, Dougie Maclean also runs a successful independent record label, recording studio and publishing company from his home base in Butterstone, Perthshire. MacLean has performed at concerts, festivals and TV shows along with Lou Reed, James Taylor, Gerry Douglas, Emmylou Harris, Cara Dillon, Mary Black, Gerry Douglas, Runrig and The Proclaimers amongst many others. His songwriting is admired by Beth Orton and now over 400 cover versions of his songs and melodies exist by artists all over the world, winning him 5 gold discs to date.

Prior to his appearance at the Concert Hall this summer, Dougie embarked upon a two week trip around the Scottish Islands on MS Explorer - a purpose-built expeditionary vessel that has voyaged from the Arctic to Antarctica to the Amazon – performing intimate solo concerts along the way in Tobermory and Stornoway.
